In fall 2016, the Office of University Initiatives responded to a proposal request from the Al Ghurair Foundation for Education in Dubai to expand higher education access to Arab students in STEM fields. Working with our institutional partners, UI rapidly facilitated the development of a scholars program at ASU that aligned with the future needs of the Arab World. After submitting the proposal, ASU was one of only two US-based universities selected for the STEM Scholars Program sponsored by the Al Ghurair Foundation for Education.
The program made master's degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics available to underserved male and female students from the Arab World in need of financial support. Students in the program were supported through mentorship and academic advising, community service opportunities, hands-on learning and an Al Ghurair Scholars’ network.

Young Thinkers Program
Expanding upon its partnership with the Al Ghurair Foundation for Education through a 5-year, $10 million grant, EdPlus at ASU is developing an online platform to assist Emirati youth with college and career preparation. Through the platform, high school students in the UAE will have access to localized career and major assessment tools including me3, up to 25 online course modules and the ability to chat with a coach.
Open Learning Scholars program
The Al Ghurair Foundation for Education launched the Open Learning Scholars program at ASU in October 2017. Aimed at preparing Arab youth to meet the future labor market demands, AGFE offers full scholarships for a range of online master’s degrees in relevant STEM fields including engineering, technology, health, education, tourism and more. Scholars will receive quality academic advising, mentoring and career counselling, as well as access to a network of Al Ghurair Scholars around the world.
