Delve into ’12
In my next few entries I will report my progress on my New Year’s resolution to help build supportive communities in 12 different settings in 2012.
1. Community Solutions and Collective Impact (setting: classroom)
This semester I am co-teaching an undergraduate honors course called Community Solutions and Collective Impact. The course is designed to connect students to community organizations that implement solutions for positive social and economic change. Students utilize the ASU’s 10,000 Solutions platform to view and analyze existing solutions, gather solutions and create their own. In addition to class meetings, students will complete fieldwork at one of three partner organizations: Balsz Elementary School District, Gateway Early College High School and UMOM New Day Center. Last Friday, University Innovation Fellow Daniil Gunitskiy and I prepared the class of 14 students to work with these partners to gather solutions from their clientele and staff. Solutions will be posted on the 10,000 solutions platform with the tag “HON394”.
2. Ashoka U Exchange (setting: two-day conference)
Starting on February 10, Ashoka U is co-hosting the Ashoka U Exchange at ASU. We aim to use this gathering to foster collaboration amongst the over 400 participants (from 100 universities and 15 countries) and support the diffusion of best practices in social entrepreneurship education. One way we are connecting our attendees is through this online community. We are also inviting all attendees to TEDxAshokaU, an inspiring evening of “ideas worth spreading” from innovators from ASU President Michael Crow to Desh Deshpande to Barbara Bush.
Stay tuned for progress…
