Submitted by Hayfa Aboukier on April 9, 2012 - 12:00am

Last week, the Polytechnic Changemaker Central held an ice cream social to celebrate the campus’ involvement in the 10 Days of 10K Challenge and to promote Changemaker Central. This challenge was created to increase engagement in the 10,000 Solutions competition. 10,000 Solutions Project ignites the power of collaborative imagination to create a solutions bank. Users can share their ideas to impact local and global communities as well as build on others’ ideas.

Learning About Digital Learning

During my time as an 8th grade math teacher with Teach For America, I was consistently looking for ways to engage my students and enhance their learning using technology. This struggle to integrate technology resources in the classroom is something that many teachers deal with in schools throughout the country. So since becoming a grad student here at ASU, I’ve been trying to learn more about blending learning, open source materials and the world of education technology.

Engaging with Ashoka Fellows

The prevalence of media and information and the “overload” that comes with it, is perhaps nothing new. Yet, as the article from Stanford points out, the question remains of “How do you curate all this information?” In addition to that vexing question, now there is also an increasingly international bent of all this new information, with people all over the world becoming not only information consumers, but also producers.

Inspiration in Threes: Part Three

Submitted by Jacqueline Smith on November 23, 2011 - 12:00am

I’ve known one of my closest friends, Sameer, for more than half of my life. We’ve analyzed some of our biggest decisions together: where to go to college and what to do after we earned our degrees, how to handle unexpected loss, when to take a risk and alter our trajectories. As we navigated these milestones, we grounded ourselves by staying true to what inspires us.

One Day. One Person. One University. Many Places.

Submitted by Hayfa Aboukier on September 27, 2011 - 12:00am

In honor of the celebration week of Changemaker Central I decided to do something that I, as well as many others, have never done. I decided to visit each campus in the same day! ASU is ONE university in MANY places and Changemaker Central is one of many ways that unites all of our campuses and provides each student with access to the same opportunities and resources in entrepreneurship, civic engagement, service learning, and community service! It is a key gathering space for ALL of ASU’s social innovators.

Dear ASU

Dear ASU,

I can’t believe that 3 years ago we met for the first time. I recall that moment when I drove onto campus to participate in the Teach For America (TFA) summer training institute held at ASU. I was welcomed with palm tree-lined streets, the blazing desert sun, clear blue skies, and a wide open door to opportunities I could have never imagined.

Persistence Plus, Tackling College Completion and Retention Rates

President Obama highlighted the importance of a college education by challenging the nation last year to raise college graduation rates to 60% in the next 10 years. A key focus in reaching this goal will be ensuring that students not only get in to college, and but actually go on to succeed and graduate once there.

Strengthening Leadership through Ignite@ASU: Reflection of 4 Canon Leaders

Submitted by Regina Uribe on May 6, 2011 - 12:00am

This year, we had the pleasure of working in partnership with Canon Leadership students to execute Ignite @ ASU: Envisioning our Future. The event was held April 7th at the ASU West campus where over 100 people came to see 12 diverse presentations.

In total, there were 4 students that helped make Ignite @ ASU a success. The students were asked to reflect on their semester working on Ignite @ ASU, what they learned, and what they hope for the future.

Sihua (Sheila) Meng is a freshman studying Finance.
